There is increasing demand for Chinese-English translation in China as its culturalexchange with the Western world is progressively deepening. However, in order tofaithfully deliver content and information of the source Chinese text in English whiletaking into consideration the reception of foreign audiences and communicationeffectiveness, translators have to select appropriate translation strategies in the guidance ofcorrect translation concept during the process, including translator’s control. Supported byexamples taken from the translation of C. Y. Tung Diaries and a set of publicity videos, thisthesis classifies and analyses situations under which translators need to control andapproaches to control translation. It also proposes the extent to which the target texts canbe controlled. |
