The21st century is a new era when human race seeks to develop and exploit the ocean inan all-round way. Marine industry is held up to national strategic level in coastal countries. Asan important component of marine industry, marine cultural industry is becoming a crucialforce in the economic growth of ocean superpowers, due to its characteristics of small input,high science and technology content, and little environment pollution. By acquiring sufficientrelevant knowledge, analyzing in-depth and making an objective and accurate evaluation ofthe international competitiveness of Chinese marine cultural industry, this research can helpdecision-making departments to detect problems promptly in the developing process ofChinese marine cultural industry and to identify constraints in the development of marinecultural industry, thus making contributions to marine economic progress in China.This research takes marine cultural industry as study object, gathers and sorts thedeveloping conditions of marine cultural industry at home and abroad, including coastaltourism, sea-related recreation and sports industry, sea-related festival, conference andexhibition industry, and sea-related literary industry, and makes a comparative analysis of thedevelopment of domestic and overseas marine cultural industry, about which the thesis thendiscusses from the perspective of international competition. Based on the comparativeanalysis, the thesis firstly constructs the comprehensive evaluation index system ofinternational competitiveness of the main body of Chinese marine cultural industry—coastaltourism. The thesis makes a comprehensive assessment of coastal tourism with the method ofquantitative analysis and weighted square sum method combined with statistical data, andthen makes another comprehensive assessment of sea-related recreation and sports industry,sea-related festival, conference and exhibition industry, and sea-related literary industry withthe method of qualitative analysis. The thesis indicates the developing trend of the industrialinternational competitiveness of Chinese marine cultural industry finds out the restrainingfactors in its development and proposes coping strategies accordingly.
