This study was conducted in order to further invesigate the development characteristics of EmotionalIntelligence (short for EI) and interpersonal relation as well as the correlations between these two facts ofthe fifth and sixth grade pupils. Pupils from Huayang primary school in city of Guangzhou and LuopuDongxiang primary school in Panyu District of Guangzhou participate in this study. This paper includes275participates with Emotional Intelligence Scale and Interpersonal Relationship Scale (revised). Theresults of statistical analysis were as follows:1) The high-level grade pupils’ total scores on EI scale is up to the middle level. The score on emotionperception subscale is higher than those on other three subscales. There’re significant area and sexdifferences on EI while there is no significant grade difference on EI.2) The interpersonal relation of city pupils is significantly better than those pupils in rural areas. pupilsshows more advantages on the supportive relationship with mothers and fathers than with theirheadteachers or teachers. The relationship with the same-sex pupils is better than that with headteachersand teachers. The pupils have better supportive relationship with their same-sex friends than theiropposite-sex friends. There’s significant grade difference on the supportive relationship with mothers.There’re gender and area differences on the supportive relationship with parents, teachers, deskmates andsame-sex friends. There’re also gender and area differences on the negative relationship while there’s nograde difference on it.3) The Emotional Intelligence of high-level graders in primary school has significant positive correlationwith positive interpersonal relationship with mothers, fathers and same-sex friends, and has negativeinterpersonal relationship with mothers and headteachers. Further regression analysis indicates thatEmotional use, self emotional management can respective positively predict the supportive relationshipwith mothers and same-sex friends. Emotional Perception and other emotional managements jointnegatively predict the negative relationship with mothers. Emotional perception significant positivelypredicts the supportive relationship with headteachers.Based on the conclusions above, this research aims at the educational inspiration to promote thesupportive relationship by enhancing Emotional Intelligence of high-level graders in primary school..
