Role lettering therapy was developed by Norio Haruguchi in the early1980sJapan. Many scholars are permitted Role lettering therapy and the therapy has beenused extensively in many domains. Role lettering therapy in mental health educationin Japan has been proven to be effective. The therapy can alleviate the pressure onstudents and improve the ability of empathy to others. The therapy also help studentsto complete developmental task.The purpose of this study was to carry out collective Role lettering therapy andindividual Role lettering therapy on Chinese college students, to verify the effect ofRole lettering therapy on the Chinese students, to prove the Role lettering therapy asthe means of mental health education and localization.Based on the above purpose, the author proposes the following two assumptions:First, the Role lettering therapy of psychological assistance for Chinese collegestudents has been proven to be effective as well, and further during the research it wasconfirmed that the Role lettering therapy in the context of the Chinese students’psychological assistance, has the same basic theory.Second, due to the different social backgrounds and cultural backgrounds, Rolelettering therapy, implemented on the Chinese students, could clearly depict thesimilarities and differences of Chinese college students and psychological problems.The results show as follow:First, the results of the collective Role lettering therapy and individual Rolelettering therapy proved the effectiveness of the Role lettering therapy, to confirm thebasis of the theoretical part of the Chinese students’ psychological aid the context ofthe Role lettering therapy.Second, Three main sources of the Chinese students’ psychological distress wasfound:(1) intense study due to the competition pressure;(2) lack of communicationskills;(3) extension of the psychological problems.Using the Role lettering therapy for mental health education on college studentsand on the basis of discussion and analysis of these results, several suggestions forprogram implementation in China were put forward:First, to use the Role lettering therapy as a vivid practical means to improveinterpersonal relationships. Second, the Role lettering therapy seems to have a good application effect on theChinese students to complete the self-identity task. Research found that Chineseuniversity students faced with the contradictions of the social reality of family cultureand self-realization, this contradiction has hindered the development of Chinesecollege students self-identity, the Role lettering therapy can be useful to promote thestudents self-identity development.Third, a planned and orderly use of Role lettering therapy to improve collegestudents empathy for others is suggested.The author believes that the Chinese students’ mental health field of education,the Role lettering therapy can get very satisfactory results. To this end, using the Rolelettering therapy to develop mental health education programs could be considered.Moreover, because of the functional diversity of the Role lettering therapy, it can alsobe useful in the related fields other than mental health education.
