Wu Yu who lived in Song Dynasty is the pioneer in the field of The research ofGuYin Learn. He had written three books on this aspect, but Yun Bu is the only onethat be completly retained, so it becomes the most direct material to studyWuYu’archaic rhyme.Since the Song Dynasty, people have gave so muchappreciation to Wu Yu for his creatoion and method, while his division of archaicrhyme is being questioned. There are two reasons for it. The first is the complexrhyme feet and the large materials, the second is people’ misunderstanding to theconcepts Tong and Zhuanshengtong. The rhyme feet come from many differentrhymes except the ones WuYu had record, and at the same time, the materials used toprove whether the word has the sound are not very accurate. So the division ofarchaic rhyme can’t meet with people’ approval. In the book, Wu Yu used twoconcepts Tong and Zhuanshengtong, they mean different things to different people,so at last they get different conclusions. WuYu had pointed definitely that YunBu waswitten to cover the shortage of many other books about rhyme like GuangYun,Ji Yunand so on.When he collected information, all the sounds appeared in ancient poetrybut not appeared in rhyme books were his object, including pronunciation of differenttimes and dialects of different regions. For the cause above, people thought thedivision of archaic rhyme made by Wu Yu is unclear. The rhyme feet in the book aremixed.but we can’t deny him absolutely.What did we need to do is to make a furtheranalysis about Tong and Zhuanshengtong which decided the outline of rhyme division.If we want to know WuYu’ viewpoint about ancient sound, making a detailed researchis essential. We shouldn’t simply stay on the face-value of the words. Refering todifferent versions, rectifying the errors, renovating the original sample of YunBu isthe first step to research. Then classifying and analysising the rhyme feet to presentthe writing purpose of the book. Based on the analysis of each word, rethinking themeaning of Tong and Zhuanshengtong, showing WuYu’s division of archaic rhymeobjectively are the main content.Only this way can we make an Objective Assessment of WuYu.
