Characters are inevitable products for human exchanges of ideas and emotions, and important tools to convey information and emotion. Among many types of characters, Chinese characters, undoubtedly, boasting the most vigor and unique cultural charm, are symbols of Chinese civilization. Chinese characters, as an outstanding representative of Chinese traditional culture, have precipitated rich and profound cultural connotations and various emotions through5,000-plus years of heritage and development. The variety in fonts of Chinese characters is embodied with the infinite wisdom and ability of the Chinese nation, thus the Chinese characters are graceful in shape, flexible in formation and deep in meaning. They have the most artistic value with worldwide reputation. They advance with the pace of human constant development with the change of a specific elaborate structure to an abstract simple one, gradually forming an identifiable and applicable font. Chinese character modeling, as a unique visual arts, in the long course of development, gathering endless imagination and creativity of the Chinese nation, smartly combines cultural ideas, emotional connotation and artistic taste of the Chinese nation.Chinese characters are not only readable symbols, but also visible fonts, whose design is to transform the readable text language into visual graphic language, and text convey to the graphic convey. Chinese characters, with beautiful shape, ingenious structure and rich implication, consist of points and lines constituting pianpangs which constitute the font. In the modern visual communication design, fonts, as an important element, have four forms:the commonly printed fonts, the art of calligraphy, art font and graphic creation of font. Different fonts convey different emotions in the design and application, with rigorous, elegant, dignified or beautiful sensibility. Each style of font has its own unique personality and implication, expressing a kind of special information adaptable to a different era, a different environment, different emotions and different uses, as well as showing its own features and emotional characteristics. The study, inheritance and constant innovation of Chinese character fonts have important and far-reaching significance in enhancing the vitality of the Chinese characters in modern design, carrying forward Chinese rich cultural heritage and improving the cultural self-confidence and national cohesion of the Chinese descendants worldwide.This thesis aims to explore the relationship between the character font style and emotional expression, with the analysis of the strokes of the Chinese character modeling and structural modeling principle, from the new angles of the combination of emotional expression in the basic elements of point, line and surface, and unique patterns in Chinese character. The thesis focuses on studying and exploring the emotional factors in the shape of the Chinese character fonts, analyzing different emotions expressed in different fonts, emotionalizing the font design and summing up the emotional images for the font, which enables designers and audiences to obtain a deeper understanding of the font, thus establishing a communication platform between them. The more reasonable and suitable font design combined with information and sensibility can convey more accurate information to the audience, thus the latter will receive the information more efficiently. Readers not only enjoy the design results and the charm of the font itself, but also experience different emotions during the process of reading.
