Jinci is an important scenic spot of Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, which is the typical representative of Shanxi culture. Jinci is the national key units of cultural relic’s protection, but also China’s largest existing royal temple building community. For this is to worship the Western Zhou period, the founding governors Tang Shu Yu’s proprietary ancestral temple, followed with the development of history, the changes of the times, for showing a different function. The paper take Jinci as the research object, studies of Jinci in the historical process of evolution by showing the three main functions change which are the functions of the traditional ancestral worship, the material carrier of Jinci Temple and tourist attractions under tourism development.Attempts from the view of folklore, the paper studies the changes of three functions in Jinci by the theories of Malinowski’s Cultural Functionalism and Folklorismus, takes the three functions of Jinci as the main line, records the Jinci locality and at the peripheral villagers’ interview situation and the Jinci fair’s sacrificial offering situation using the field investigation’s method thorough on-the-spot investigation. In this way, the paper shows the historical development process of Jinci.In the conclusion part of this article, it combines the process of Jinci’s three functions to analyze the causes and characteristics of the change, and it gives further explanation is to comply with social the need as well as the vulgar people’s demand and the approval of the changes.
