Ming dynasty was one of the unified empires in Chinese history after Han, Tang and Yuan dynasty. In territory, although Ming Empire was not as large as the Yuan dynasty and also hard to be competitive with its succeeding empire, Qing dynasty, but Ming had effectively governed the border areas by the special ways that the former dynasties never had. It’s a good example to illustrate this question on how the Ming central government dealt with the Tibetan areas. And envoys played the important roles that made these policies been possibilities during Ming dynasty. These officials traveled between central China and Tibetan areas, carried the special missions of emperors to Tibetan, so following the tracks of these envoys, it has been a great way to research Ming’s politics of frontiers.This paper will help to understand well the reasons why there were so quiet and peaceful on the western frontiers during Ming dynasty. This paper also focused on the activities of Ming’s envoys in Tibet based on analysis of the traditional Chinese historical materials, Tibetan records, local documents and so on, and paid on attention on the reference of the publications. This research used the methods of data processing by tables to illustrate how these envoys’activities changed during different period in Ming dynasty. This research compared Ming’s policies on Tibetan with other dynasties and made a conclusion of what these envoys’roles in the relationship between central China and Tibetan areas. Meanwhile, this research also discovered the important historical significant of the envoys to Tibet by the ways of archaeological, religious views and so on. By this research, it will not only provide us a whoie view on how Ming dynasty successfully controlled the Tibetan areas by the envoys, but also will present us a clear description on how these envoys effected the relationship between two areas addressing whatever the good or bad results. The activities of these envoys to Tibet during the Ming dynasty, was the manifestation of the policies of the Ming dynasty on Tibetan. As these envoys were the representatives of Ming’s policies on Tibetan, they have been the key elements to research the Tibetan in Ming dynasty. Studying on them can help people understand well whatever in Tibetan’s independent situation or In the relationship between central China and Tibetan.
