The use of preposition “gei” is complicated and diverse, and in some cases its part ofspeech is also disputed. On the basis of previous researches, the thesis tentatively analyzes thepreposition’s sentence mechanism, context semantics and biased errors caused by overseasstudents. The study is based on language database and it mainly uses mark theory,interlanguage theory, and three plane theory and so on. The content of this thesis is dividedinto three parts:Chapter one mainly elaborates the previous studies on all prepositions and “gei”, andgives a simple explanation on the part of speech of “gei”. This chapter points out the thesis’semphasis which is preposition “gei” and it also introduces the marks of preposition andrelated theories.Chapter two is the focus of the study and it regards “gei” as preposition tag to analyzethe sentence mechanism. According to the three plane theory and mark theory, this chapteranalyzes this preposition’s functions in the sentence. It mainly focuses on three aspects ofsyntactic mark, semantic mark and pragmatic mark. According to the context and semantics,the chapter explains the sentence mechanism and the emergence of the preposition “gei”.Chapter three uses interlanguage theory to analyze the biased errors of “gei” in thedatabase, and it also gives the reasons of these incorrect types. This chapter also offers themethods to avoid these biases and puts forward the teaching strategies of Chinese forforeigners.
