Late Qing Dynasty, being the transitional time from modern Chinese to contemporary Chinese, is the importment peroid of chinese development. Keeped the modern chinese language traces, aslo showed the development trend of the contemporary chinese. Vocabulary is the language living fossils, the vocabulary of that peroid even more unique, it laid the foundation of contemporary Chinese vocabulary system. Study the novel words of that peroid, we can found the evolvement and development of Chinese vocabulary.Xiao’e(《小额》)which,accomplished in the late Qing Dynasty,wroted by the Manchu writer Cai Youmei. The novel described the daily life of the Manchu people, the novel words not just keeped the features of Manchu,more imporment,it closed to the spoeken language of the contemporary chinese,provided important clues for us to study chinese vocabulary system. This paper, compared the basic vocabulary of the novel to the Grand dictionary of Chinese Language,from the following there aspects,as the collectde words,the examples and the meaning of the words. This not only helps us better to read and understand the novel, but also for the Grand dictionary of Chinese Language revised and improved in future also have a very important contribution. In addition to the basic words continued today,Xiao’e also use a lot of idioms and slang idioms, some idioms’forms was different from the common idioms, but the expression was the same meaning, and many forms is more combination of law consistent with Chinese idioms. In addition, the novel appeard in many official names, titles, etc., have retained the tradition of the Manchu language and customs.
