Analysis Of The Evaluation Function And Evidential Function Of Middle Construction

Middle construction is often used in people’s daily life, it is mainly through active formto express passive meaning. To study middle construction, the primary problem is to make areasonable definition. As the academic point of view is not yet unified, it is necessary todetermine a form that correct and easy to be analyzed. This article defines “NP+VP+AP” asmiddle construction, I will analyze these three components one by one in the third section——syntactic analysis of the characteristics. Discourse function is the emphasis in this article,so, I can study it from two main aspects: the first one is evaluation function, due to thedifferent form of subject, different discourse functions is showed naturally, at the same time,analyze the three discourse function of middle construction expressed in a specific discourseand the effect of evaluation function on a pragmatic level. And the function on a pragmaticlevel can be studied from both enhancing the effect of expression and stressing purpose of thespeaker’s expression. Another discourse function of middle construction is evidential function,and analysis of evidential function is based on the research of evidentiality. By analyzing”VPcan be front” and”VP can not be front”, we know the differences of evidential function. In thesection of evidential function, I also analyze the information characteristic of middleconstruction that is stating the reasons and leading to compare. The significance of combiningmiddle construction with discourse function not only enrich the understanding of people aboutmiddle construction, but also provide a new angle to the language applied research. So it has agreat academic value.
