Higher vocational Colleges represent a new direction in our education system. What’s more, English is the main course for students there. Vocabulary teaching and learning has long been an intractable problem in these colleges. It is necessary for the teachers in higher vocational colleges to master the philosophy of teaching methodology of English vocabulary in order that their students can achieve an effective way of foreign language learning.The author conduct a vocabulary teaching experiment in Wuhan Higher Vocational College. This dissertation is written on the basis of this experiment and gets some meaningful results. Task-Based Approach is proved to be very helpful to English vocabulary teaching in domestic higher vocational college.Including the introduction, this dissertation consists of seven chapters.The first chapter is the introduction. In this part, the author gives a brief introduction of the background, scope and significance of the study.The second chapter critically analyses and evaluates the available literature on Task-Based Approach and English vocabulary teaching methods from different aspects.The third chapter expatiates the application of Task-Based Approach in higher vocational colleges. Firstly, the author reviews the conception of vocabulary and vocabulary teaching. Secondly, the author gives a simple introduction of Task-Based Approach and related conceptions. Thirdly, the author summarizes the current situation and main problems of domestic higher vocational English vocabulary teaching.The fourth chapter records and narrates an experiment of Task-Based Approach as an English vocabulary teaching method organized by the author.The fifth chapter investigates the results of the experiment and discusses the relations among TBA, vocabulary teaching and English course in higher vocational colleges. The sixth chapter is about limitations and conclusion. It offers the limitations of the research, the conclusion of the application of Task-Based Approach in higher vocational English vocabulary teaching.
