Application Of Task-based Approach To Vocabulary Teaching In College English

Recently English learning and teaching have drawn great attention of college teachers and students. And vocabulary as one of the essential elements of language communication has aroused many concerns. Learning vocabulary is one of the most important factors of learning a language. But vocabulary learning and teaching is a big challenge for both teachers and students in colleges. After several years of English teaching, the author finds that the traditional way of teaching vocabulary has little effect on students’vocabulary competence. For those students who are interested in learning English, the traditional way cannot meet their needs. So it is high time for the teachers to explore an effective English teaching method to arouse students’interest as well as to increase their English vocabulary level.After researching on the recent teaching methods, the author finds that task-based approach has attracted great attention of both professionals and researchers. Many researchers have made a lot of investigation on English vocabulary teaching, but few has paid attention to the task-based approach to vocabulary teaching in colleges.The thesis aims at testifying if the application of task-based approach is effective to the English vocabulary teaching in colleges. And it also makes a comparison of the test results between the experimental group and the control group and find out the task-based approach is more effective than traditional teaching method. According to the results of the questionnaire, we can get a result to show that task-based approach can arouse students’ interests of learning English and it can improve their efficiency of memorizing and mastering new words.
