A good mastery of vocabulary has a direct effect on learners' four fundamental skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing required in the language acquisition. Task-based Language Teaching (TBLT) is a development of Communicative Language Teaching. Language learners in TBLT are provided with lots of opportunities to explore both spoken and written language through learning activities which are designed to engage learners in the authentic, practical use of language. Thus learners' motivation and interest in their language learning is stimulated during their participation in interaction. The study was conducted to investigate the positive effect of Task-based Language Teaching on learners' English vocabulary acquisition. The experiment lasted for ten weeks. The subjects for the research were 97 students chosen from Harbin Finance College in Heilongjiang Province. Research results show that TBLT effectively facilitates learners' English vocabulary acquisition by providing learners with opportunities of participation in using their target language. This finding indicates that Task-based vocabulary teaching can be conducted and popularized in college English classrooms in China.
