Drama translation as an indispensable part of literary translation has itsparticularities, for it should take both performability and literariness into account. Asit mainly stays on the linguistically oriented translation modes while neglecting theaesthetic qualities, the study of drama translation has long been hampered. Therefore,to keep or represent the artistic qualities of the original play, equivalenttransformations should be achieved not only on the linguistic level, but also on theaesthetic one.By applying the “image-G” transformational mode put forward by ProfessorJiang Qiuxia, this thesis for the first time probes into the image-G actualization in theEnglish translation of Thunderstorm. The exploration is made mainly into the basicmodes of image-G in the English Version of Thunderstorm, namely the personalitiesof characters and the dramatic conflicts. Then it goes on to investigate how theactualization of image-G positively influences the translating process ofThunderstorm on both linguistic and aesthetic level. As for the linguistic level, thisinfluence mainly lies in syntactic compensation and semantic integrity, while on theaesthetic level, it is reflected in the translator’s manipulation of parts and the choice oftranslation strategies. All these not only go deep into the psychological activities oftranslators during the image-G actualization in drama translation, but also providecertain help to further realize its aesthetic representation.
