The C-E news translation, as part of China’s English-language news reporting towardsthe world, is of vital importance in terms of the international communication of China. Thecoverage of the rapid development and updated happenings of the Chinese society caters toa global audience, and contributes to a favorable international public opinion for China todevelop. How do the C-E news translators adapt to the various factors in the translationaleco-environment, such as the stylistics of news language both in English and Chinese, thejournalistic system and news reporting conventions, the culture and society of China andforeign countries, the objective of China’s international communication and so on? Thisthesis discusses these questions under the theoretical framework of eco-translatologythrough case study and critical discourse analysis. The thesis holds that the newstranslators are at the central place and dominates the translating process. They have a dualidentity as both news writer and news translator, which requires them to be equipped withboth news writing skills and English proficiency. From an eco-translatological perspective, the process of news translation is the news translator’s selective adaptation and adaptiveselection in a specific news translational eco-environment. The news translator’scenteredness is manifest in the linguistic, cultural, communicative and other dimensions, which leads him or her towards a quality news story of a highest degree of holisticadaptation and selection. Moreover, the news translator is doing things with translation, contributing to language innovation and the export of the Chinese values.
