On E-C Translation Of Soft News From The Perspective Of Eco-translatology

With the development of globalization,the communication between countries is becoming closer and closer,and the news communication between them is also becoming more frequent.News communication between countries is no longer limited to official,political and economic topics,and the status of soft news,which reflects social cultures and local features,has been gradually elevated.Therefore,it is evident that soft news translation is of great importance.Soft news is a special kind of news texts,which is a kind of delayed news with focus laid on interesting,informative news full of personal touch.It is more likely to arouse readers' empathy.Its extensive content,flexible expressions and a broad audience are its highlights and also its difficulties in translation.At present,there are some domestic scholars and postgraduate and doctoral students who have conducted researches on soft news translation,but they carried out these studies mostly from such perspectives or theories as functional equivalence,relevance theory,rewriting theory,manipulation theory,Skopostheorie and the theory of intertextuality.However,few scholars put the theory of eco-translatology into news translation practice.In view of this,the present research attempts to combine the eco-translatology with translation practice in an effort to provide a new perspective and possibility for news translation.Guided by Hu Gengshen's theory of eco-translatology,the present research is carried out on the basis of the present author's E-C translation of 30 pieces of soft news selected from the Global Times.The paper first discusses the preparation before translation,translation process and post-translation work,in which the differences between English and Chinese soft news in such aspects as news headline,news lead and body content are introduced.Besides,the principles of news translation and the translation methods and strategies are also presented.Then the author gives a survey of Hu Gengshen's eco-translatology,including the key concepts and core ideas as well as the application of eco-translatology in news translation.On the basis of it,the author makes an analysis from the perspective of three-dimensional transformation(linguistic dimension,cultural dimension and communicative dimension)and explains how the translator makes adaptive selection and selective adaptation to achieve her subjectivity in the process of translation so as to achieve a successful translation.Lastly,the translator makes a summary of the various translation methods and techniques used in the process of translation.It is expected that this research can provide some useful suggestions and references for the future in-depth study of E-C soft news translation.
