Research On The Appearance Form And Inheritance Of Chinese Folk Vest In Modern Age

Vest is one of the common varieties of Chinese traditional costumes, it has a long history and avariety of shapes. Chinese folk vest in modern age refers to: the cloth that civil ordinary people toproduce their own and wear for everyday in the modern period, that is, from the Opium War in1840to the founding of new China in1949. Its appearance form inheritance from the style of Qingdynasty, so does the name, called as "Majia" in Chinese, and has been used till mow. With socialprogress and the advancement of technology, Chinese folk vest’s appearance form and productionprocess is gradually disappearing in modern society. According to the United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organization’s definition of "Intangible Cultural Heritage", folk costumesand production processes are "traditional handicraft skills", it should be protected and inheritance.This paper relying on Humanities and social sciences by the Ministry of education’s project,based on the research and analysis of the53vests collection from the late Qing period andRepublican periods in Jiangnan University folk costumes museum. First of all, take pictures on thevest, measurement, and establishment it for a database. Then, using the literature search method,comparative analysis, summarized Chinese folk vest’s design history, the characteristics ofappearance form and the process characteristics. Analysis it from the Art, Folklore and Sociology,then draw out the excellent utility value and aesthetic value of Chinese folk vest. Finally, take theappearance form heritage and cultural heritage as a starting point, use the method of marketresearch, statistical analysis. Carries on the investigation to the present market demand, draws theconclusion, then designed the modern vest that use of Chinese folk vest’s traditional elements. Toproves the necessity and importance of the inheritance of Chinese folk vest in modern age.In this paper, it use a new research perspective, in a new research areas, to made the concretedefinition to the Chinese folk vest in modern age that have no specific research in China now.Reflect the value of research on folk costumes, conducive to spread and inheritance our traditionalfolk culture and art, protection of intangible cultural heritage. So that we can better understand andpromote the charm of our traditional culture.
