Research On Geometric Modeling Language In Japanese Poster Art

This paper begins with traditional Japanese culture and the background of the world art anddesign, also combines research on a number of contemporary Japanese poster designersand their works to explore the same form and shape language which is presented inJapanese Poster. Compared to the style of the poster design dominating by the West,the Japanese poster art using a geometric modeling language describes theperformance of external oriental languages and the spiritual content. Throughout thehistory of Japanese poster art, this unique style is rooted in the native language of thetraditional art form, including traditional Japanese Ukiyo-e art, architecture, art, andJapanese Zen for its spirit. Secondly, the contemporary West modeling arts hasinfiltrated through and integrated into it with which, such as Picasso’s Cubism,Mondrian’s Stijl, Kandinsky’s abstractionism and Malevich’s Supremacy, and so on.In the first part of this paper, the absorption of traditional art and reference oncontemporary are two main lines which also combined with contemporary design idea,completely giving the formation and the development context of the geometric shapein Japanese poster. The second part is mainly through the works of masters of manyJapanese posters to further detail the subject of this article, from the point, line,surface of the poster graphic design to the unique Chinese art and the composition inmodeling language. Through these emotional and rational researches and from a largeperspective, this article explores and summarizes Japanese poster art to help and guideus to inherit and learn how to deal with our own traditional arts, and also walk out away of our own nation’s poster design.
