The Chinese National Orchestra Music as an industry has made great progress in recent years. This is not only because of the country has paid attention on inheritance and development of the national folk music, but also due to constant efforts of folk music organizations at all levels, professional troupes and folk music players. The most important point is, professionals has composed a number of popular folk music works. Large-scale National Orchestra Music "Lyric Variations" is one of the representatives. The work itself has won the second prize of the Ninth National music awards hosted by the Ministry of Culture Affairs. It has become a frequently performed repertoire of National Orchestras in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Singapore.The reason for "Lyric Variations" to have obtained such great success is because the composer has adhere to the following principles in his composition:First of all, it is based on the characristic of the nationality. The theme of this song is built on the basis of national Pentatonic with a typical characteristic of music of the Chinese nation, but different from traditional folk orchestra music. This is result of the composer’s smart integration of Western compositional techniques and the Chinese ethnic musical elements. The second, is lyrical. The composer is not targeting on showing band techniques and composition skills. Instead, the catharsis of human nature is the leading element. Thirdly, is insisting on innovation. Innovations on the musical structure, on creation method, on sound effect abd the rhythm."Lyric Variations" includes a theme and15variations, the composer has divided them into three movements. The overall tone of the layout of the music is composed of "T---D---T(a minor-e minor-a minor)"The composer of the "Lyric Variations," Liu Changyuan, is China’s well-known contemporary composer and professor of Central Conservatory of Music, Master Instructor, Director composition Course of the High School attached to Central Conservatory. In1985he graduated from the Composition Department of Tianjin Conservatory of Music under the tutelage of renowned composer Bao Yuan Kai Professor. In1987, he graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music postgraduate courses with master degree, under the tutelage of Professor Liu Liewu, Professor Li Yinghai. From1992to1995, he was admitted to the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music where he studied composition under the tutelage of the Russian composer E.Denisove, and the theorists V.Xolopowa from whom he learned the analysis of works in twentieth century, and obtained the artist diploma (PhD).The second half of the article describes in detail how to conduct the music, and the points that need attention. Overall, in movement I, the key point is to grasp the changing process of "from simple to complex, from weak to strong and from static to dynamic". In movement II, the key point is to grasp the rhythm, and the division of the logical stress. And in movement III, the key point is to grasp both the tempo changes and the mood changes of the music,In music "Lyric Variations", it’s basic theme is played at different speeds, with great variety of rhythms, in many different sounds and different genres of variation levels to show that how could many elements integrated in one piece of work. It has opened up a new way of thinking in creating the national orchestral music. It can also be seen as a template of the Chinese national orchestra symphonic etudes in certain extend. Hopefully more composers will participate in the folk music composition, more and better folk music works will be created. Let’s put our effort together for a better development of the folk music and its reputation in the world!...
