Now, for many foreign students, pronunciation obstacle is thebiggest difficult when learning Chinese characters. The sound-elements ofphonogram can help the students by indicting pronunciation. But the lowphonetic rate has also misguided a lot people. Many specialists haverecognized that the pronunciation indications of the sound-elements playan important role in TCSOL. But they failed to find the right way ofteaching, which should be studied on the basis of researching the learningcontent and learning situation of the foreign students.Firstly, this paper describes the background of Chinese charactersteaching and analyzes the achievement of the teaching Chinese charactersthrough using the pronunciation Indications of the sound-elements in thepast. Then it points the problems at present.Secondly, it studies in the information of the sound-elements in "TheSyllabus of Graded Words and Characters for Chinese Proficiency",coming up with an idea that different types of sound-elements shouldadopt different methods. Besides, the paper summarizes the survey data and analyzes thelearning situation of foreign students.Finally, it puts forward some advice on teaching, which will help thestudents and the teachers take advantage of the pronunciation Indicationsof the sound-elements.
