In teaching Chinese as a foreign language,a textbook plays a vital role. The vocabulary, grammar points, and topics chosen in the textbook largely determine what students can learn from it.A complete set of comprehensive course textbooks are usually divided into three stages: elementary level, intermediate level, and advanced level. The pre-intermediate stage is also added in some textbooks. It is stipulated in some textbooks that students should reach the corresponding HSK level after completing a certain stage. For example,Li Xiaoqi, the editor of Boya Chinese, proposed that "after learning the four stages of Boya Chinese, the learners' Chinese proficiency can reach HSK level 3,6,8 and 11 respectively." This paper select two volumes of Boya Chinese(Elementary,Second Edition),the current comprehensive Chinese textbook for foreigners, and analyzed the vocabulary, grammar points and topics involved. In reference to Chinese Proficiency Test Syllabus Level 1-3(2015 Edition),it collect vocabulary, grammar points and topics of the textbooks and analyzed them in the form of charts to test the match between the textbooks and the syllabus, and to provide suggestions for both language learning and textbook writing. There are three main parts of this paper: vocabulary, grammar, and topic.Firstly, through word segmentation and the help of statistical software, this paper found that the vocabulary of textbooks was large, but the recurrence rate of vocabulary was low, standing approximately at 3 to 4.The repetition rate between words from the textbooks and those in the syllabus is relatively high, reaching about 90%,which is worthy of recognition.Secondly, the number of grammar points in textbooks and those in the syllabus is close to the same. But 3 grammar points a lesson slightly exceeds what is required by the syllabus. In addition, the repetition rate of the grammar points is relatively low, which is only 56.9%.Thirdly,the textbooks cover only 42.5% of the syllabus topics whereas topics that are not involved in the syllabus are excessive. The paper also put forward relevant questions and suggestions at the end of very part.Hope to provide a reference for the revision of Boya Chinese. The conclusion sum up some problems and merits of Boya Chinese(Elementary,Second Edition)found in this paper, and gave some shortcomings of the paper as well.
