With the obvious trend of economic globalization and the internationaldevelopment of China’s market, China continues to strengthen its communication andcooperation with other countries. English is an international language, andEnglish-Chinese contract translation is often needed in foreign trade. English contractplays an indispensable role to uphold the benefit of both two parties and ensure thebusiness activities go smoothly. The quality of E-C contract translation also plays animportant role in international business activities, so the discussion about theEnglish-Chinese translation of the contract has a practical value. This paper gives adetailed introduction about the contract conditions translation of an oil depotconstruction project. The construction project contract is one type of business Englishcontracts, and this translation work belongs to English-Chinese translation. In the past,the relevant studies on the English translation of construction project contracts arevery few. In this paper, the author summarizes the difficult points,such as specializedvocabulary, ancient words, modal verbs and the conditional adverbial clauses and thenrespectively analyze the parts of speech, lexical meanings and sentence structures adopted in the process of contract English translation. In this way, the paper attemptsto demonstrate what should be noticed in the English contract translation work. Thispaper strives for inspiration to the contract translation in the future.The structure of this paper goes as follows: Chapter1begins with a briefintroduction, which presents the purpose, practical value of this project. Chapter2focuses on the principles of contract translation. The author elaborates on Nida’sfunctional equivalence theory and the principle of “faithfulness, expressiveness andelegance”, which guides contract translation effectively. Chapter3concentrates onexpressing the difficulties and skills in contract translation. The author makes adetailed analysis of specialized vocabulary, ancient words, the use of modal verbs andthe conditional adverbial clauses. In Chapter4and the conclusion of the paper, theauthor summarizes the related principles and rules of contract translation.
