With the continuous development of our country’s economy, the enterprise businessis increasing and the application range of the contract is more and more widely. Thecontract has the force of law with formal and grave words, so the requirements oftranslation work in the practical application are strict and the translation work has acertain difficulty. At present, there are all kinds of business contract translations on themarket. This paper wishes to sum up the characteristics of texts and the translationstrategies of the contract and contribute to the translation of contract through thispractice.During the period of internship, the author participated in translation workorganized by Transn (Beijing) Information Technology Co., Ltd. and translated a lot ofcontract texts. This paper selects two contracts,"Nanson Education Consulting ServiceContract" and "Full-time Labor Contract", as the main focused research objects to reviewthe translation problems encountered in the process of translation practice from threeaspects, meaning, syntax and discourse structure. Under the direction of Newmark’ssemantic translation and communicative translation theories, this paper analyzed thecharacteristics of the contract’s terms and statements from the view of language featuresof contract text, find out translation strategies to solve translation problems, and sum upthe choice and application of translation strategies and translation skills in the process ofcontract translation.This paper includes five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction of thepractice’s background, including the introduction of translation task and the backgroundof the principal. The second chapter is description of the task and the translation process.It focuses on the preparation in the pre-translation process, including the preparation ofjargon, the selection and the analysis of parallel text, etc. The third chapter is caseanalysis. It analyses the contract text on the typical cases under the direction ofNewmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation theories and sums upspecific translation problems arising from the translation. The fourth chapter is theapplication of translation skills. It puts out the translation strategies and skills to thespecific problems in the translation, and analyses the practical cases. The fifth chapter isto summary to this translation practice.
