With the rapid development and further integration of international economy, businesstext has been playing an essential and indispensable role in the modern commercialactivities. Due to the different language systems and cultural backgrounds that English andChinese pertain to, English and Chinese usually have dissimilar expression customs interms of lexical, syntactical and contextual levels. This report is written based on theauthor’s own translation practice of translating a commercial document, Introduction ofBeautiful Island Trading Company and Its Products, which belongs to a business text andpossesses its own peculiar linguistic features and specific intent. Actually, the crucialpurpose of this business text translation is to establish a positive corporate image, attractthe target readers’ attention, develop the potential consumers’ purchasing desire, andultimately stimulate the target reader to buy the products.The report includes five parts, namely, task description, process description,theoretical framework, case analysis and conclusion. The fourth chapter is the main bodyof the whole report, in which the author illustrates how she applies Nida’s Theory to hertranslation practice in terms of lexical, syntactical and contextual levels. At the lexicallevel, the report analyzes the conversion of part of speech and the translation of technicalterms, which deserves special attention of translators. At the syntactical level, it is mainlydevoted to expounding some strategies in translating long and complicated sentences,which is the great challenge for the author in the translating process. In the author’stranslation practice, the strategies of both preserving the original order and rearranging theoriginal order are adopted to cope with it. Apart from this, some other translation methodsare proposed to share in the report, involving the conversion of Active Voice and PassiveVoice, Amplification and Adaptation Strategies. It is hoped that this report can providevaluable reference to those translators who may encounter the similar source texts in thefuture.
