Historical biography is an important literary genre. It encompasses historical and literary features in a way that guides the readers to get a better grasp of the history and enjoy the literary materials. With the increasing cultural exchange between China and other countries,a large number of foreign biographies arouse the interests of Chinese readers. Therefore,it is of great significance to translate this kind of text.Besides,it also puts forward higher requirements for translators. This report is based on the author's practice of translating a historical biography Nazi Princess(Chapter 4-6).The SL text introduces the real life experience and espionage engagement of Stephanie von Hohenlohe, who became famous during the World War II for her activities as a spy.Guided by Eugene A.Nida's functional equivalence theory, the author analyzes difficulties in the process of translation. From Nida's theory,it is essential for translators to reproduce in the receptor language the closest natural equivalent of the source-language message. This practice report is composed of five parts: The first chapter is task description. It introduces task background, task process and task target. The second chapter is understanding the source text that shows the three aspects which include introduction to the author, the text and potential difficulties. The third chapter is the introduction of guiding theory: functional equivalence theory. The fourth chapter is case study, which makes analysis of translation methods from aspects of lexical, syntactic, discourse and stylistic equivalence. Finally, the fifth chapter covers the conclusion for this practice report.
