The film Kung Fu Panda has drawn many people’s attention, common viewers’and scholars’ as well. Even Slavoj Zizek himself has made some comments on thetautology effect of Kung Fu Panda in one of his short essays. Though it impressesmost of its audience as an innocent, fun-making cartoon, the movie is, in a Zizekiansense, ideological in its purest form. It is extremely cynical: we know they ridiculeall this ideology, but the message is even though we know it is not true and we makefun, in the end we have to believe in it. However, even though Kung Fu Panda hasvividly illustrated Zizek’s notion of the sublime object and the ideological fantasy, noChinese authors has systemically analyzed Kung Fu Panda from the perspective ofZizek’s ideological theory. Therefore, this dissertation tries to analyze Kung FuPanda from Zizek’s ideological perspective in the hope of elaborating Zizek’sideological theory and explaining how ideology, through manipulating people’sdesire, constructs the subject and controls our life.
