Ever since China’s WTO entry, it is only after the Beijing Olympic Games in2008that the world started to unveil this mysterious country in the Far East. As yet China evolves in more political, economic and cultural interaction with the world, the research trend and methods of translation studies and the translation teaching in Chinese universities are confronting a challenging bottleneck.By analyzing the related publications from2006to2011collected from the recognized databases CNKI and Web of Science, this thesis attempts to generalize the differences and similarities of the research trend and methods home and abroad. It is believed that theoretical studies are of essential significance and feasible suggestions, on translation teaching for higher education in China are put forward in order to do its little share to ameliorate translation teaching and translation studies in China.The thesis introduces the range of the study translatology from the perspectives of the foundation of translatology, translation objectives and so on. In the West, The Map written by Williams and Chesterman summarizes twelve key areas of the research and mentions the possible research directions for each area; and some other related theories proposed by Chinese scholars like Wang Kefei are also discussed. While it is quite pitiful that most related research in China are based on some domestic journals on translation and not much research concerning the latest trend and methods are conducted. It is therefore rather urgent to study the new trend and methods with the fast development of translation teaching in Chinese universities.It is revealed from the analysis that fewer translation theories are studied in China comparatively while some western theories are much discussed now. It also can be seen that theoretical studies are often integrated with translation practices in China. The final analysis is relatively objective and the conclusion is of theoretical guidance for further studies in this area. The suggestions proposed by the author are of practical use in order to ameliorate the translation teaching for higher education in China.
