Vocabulary is the basis of all language skills and lays the foundation for thelanguage. Besides, English vocabulary directly influences the learning of listening,speaking, reading and writing. At present, the English level of vocational collegestudents is not high. To a great extent, the vocabulary teaching can influence theeffectiveness of English teaching in vocational college.From the perspective of motivation theory, this study applied the self-efficacytraining to the English vocabulary teaching in vocational college in order to test andverify the impact of the cultivation of self-efficacy on students’ English vocabularylearning. The research questions are as follows:(1) Can self-efficacy training in vocabulary teaching enhance vocational collegestudents’ self-efficacy of English vocabulary learning?(2) Can the application of self-efficacy training improve vocational collegestudents’ vocabulary learning achievements?(3) Does self-efficacy training enhance vocational college students’ confidenceand arouse students’ interest in learning vocabulary?Under the guidance of the above research questions, by pre-testing158studentsof four classes in Shan Dong Radio Broadcasting and Television College, the authorchose two proximate-level natural classes. One is randomly assigned as theexperimental class adopting self-efficacy training teaching mode, and the other as thecontrol class adopting the traditional “present-practice-review” teaching mode. Thewhole teaching experiment lasted18weeks. At the end of the teaching experiment,the post-questionnaire, the post-test were carried out, and the results of them were allanalyzed quantitatively and qualitatively with SPSS13.0, then the conclusion wasmade on the basis of it.The findings of the teaching experiment are:(1) Self-efficacy training in vocabulary teaching can enhance vocational collegestudents’ self-efficacy of English vocabulary learning.(2)The application of self-efficacy training to the English vocabulary teaching can improve vocational college students’ vocabulary learning achievements.(3) The application of self-efficacy training to the English vocabulary teachingcan not only add vocational college students’ learning enthusiasm and enhance theirconfidence, but also arouse students’ interests and improve the initiative of thestudents’ vocabulary learning.It is found that the application of self-efficacy training in the vocabulary teachingis an effective way to improve their vocabulary learning. Although the research hasproduced some positive results, it has some limitations. The author at last proposedthe implications and suggestions for future study.
