Reflections On The Translation Of Business English Contract

With the development of China’s reform and opening up and the advancing economic globalization, an increasing number of Chinese enterprises are considering overseas expansion. As a result, nowadays, international trades take on an unprecedented trend of high development. And business contract translation, as one of the critical factors in international trade, has attracted more and more attention from enterprises as well as translators.As a student of MTI program, the author participated in a business translation project sponsored by Shandong Energy Group during July to September,2012. Based on the author’s experiences of contract translation work, this paper outlines the characteristics of English contracts and quality assessment of contract translation, and gives a detailed description of her process of translation. The main part of this paper is devoted to dealing with linguistic obstacles and non-linguistic difficulties, and an analysis with case study of a translation text, so as to improve translation skills and increase efficiency. Meanwhile, the author also sums up some enlightening proposals in the hope of providing a reference for MTI students in their future study and career work.
