Effective Note-taking Methods In Chinese-English Consecutive Interpreting Under The Guidance Of The Interpretive Theory

Note-taking is very important in Chinese-English consecutive interpreting. Notescan be classified into three categories: effective notes, sub-effective notes andnon-effective notes. Effective notes refer to notes that can contain completeinformation and remind the interpreter of his/her memory in a logical way. Effectivenotes should be pursued in the interpreting process.The interpretative theory believes that translation is not a simple decoding andencoding process between language A and language B. It is the result of positiveanalysis of the source language (SL). Interpreters should convey，via the targetlanguage, the deeper meaning of the SL, instead of the surface meaning of the words.The interpretative theory can be applied to the concept of effective notes becauseanalyzing the information received during the speech is the prerequisite for takingeffective notes.In order to research methods of effective note-taking, this writer has innovativelydivided the average texts into four different categories, namely, the numerous figurestype, the complicated information type, the messy logic type and the parallelcounterpart type, with a view to research the corresponding note-taking methods foreach category.The author hopes that this paper can provide some help to interpretingpractitioners at the beginning level.
