In consecutive interpretation, notes are an important aid and supplement.Good notes can help the interpreter output the speaker’s viewpoint more completely and facilitate the audience’s understanding. However,if an interpreter relies too much on notes and takes up too much energy in note-taking,it will not only affect listening and discernment, but also lead to insufficient notes, thus causing them not only to fail to play an auxiliary role, but also to hinder the interpreter’s understanding. Therefore, translators must pay attention to the problem of insufficient effectiveness of note-taking in their regular training, making instant memory the main help and note-taking supplementary. In this paper, the author takes the mock conference on "Urbanization and Sustainable Development" as an example to discuss the manifestations of insufficient note-taking effectiveness and propose corresponding improvement strategies.Firstly, the author collates the studies in related literature and clarifies the basic principles of effective notetaking.Secondly, the author analyzes the manifestations of insufficient note-taking,including wrong recorded information, confusion of meaning groups and rigidity of recording language. In response to the main manifestations of insufficient note-taking,the author proposes three major improvement strategies, which are to allocate energy rationally, grasp logical main lines and simplify the language of note-taking.It is expected that the effectiveness of note-taking in consecutive interpreting can be improved by these methods.
