Note-taking in consecutive interpreting is necessary for interpreters boththeoretically and practically. Effective notes could help interpreters recallinformation and guarantee the quality of interpretation. There are a couple of rulesfor interpreting learners to follow in note-taking. As a postgraduate majoring inEnglish interpreting, the author had been equipped with good listening and speakingcapabilities as well as a general understanding of interpreting. Through theprofessional training and a lot of practice on note-taking in consecutive interpreting,the author has made significant progress in consecutive interpreting.Distinct performances under the influence of note-taking skills are shown by thescripts and recordings of interpretation on the same speeches taken in different stages.Specific suggestions are put forward from the perspectives of what to note, how tonote and when to note. Equivocal points such as “language of notes” are discussedand the relevant techniques or principles are presented based on my own experience.Finally, training methods of effective note-taking are summarized and provided. Theresearch on note-taking may help more interpreting learners to improve theirinterpreting performance.
