This thesis is aimed at exploring the manifest intertextuality and constitutive intertextuality in English hotel introduction, revealing how intertextuality functions effectively in English hotel introduction and the use of intertextuality helps to achieve communicative purposes successfully, subsequently giving enlightenments to both the writer and reader of English hotel introduction.Intertextuality refers to a concept that the texts are interrelated with or dependent on each other. Based on the Hatim and Mason’s model as well as Fairclough’s classification of manifest intertextuality and constitutive intertextuality, the paper sets a comprehensive theoretical framework consisting of eleven intertextuality types, six of which are manifest intertextuality and five of which constitutive intertextuality.The paper is mainly a qualitative one with simple quantitative research. The data is a corpus made up of40pieces of English hotel introduction. Deep investigation and detailed analysis show that it is a common and persuasive thing for English hotel introduction to make use of various intertextuality types in order to achieve its communicative purposes. On the one hand, taking advantage of intertextuality can increase the persuasive and convincing force of English hotel introduction, impress readers deeply and arouse readers’ attention and interests, get positive response and accordingly realize the promoting aims. On the other hand, employing intertextuality serves great function in making a logic and attractive piece of English hotel introduction, helping to express meanings clearly and convey information accurately, facilitating readers’s interpretation and acceptance. Therefore, the following strategies concluded based on the discussion above are available:1) adopt manifest intertextuality, making use of reference, quotation and self-quotation to provide necessary information and enhance the objectivity and authenticity of English hotel introduction; of cliche and conventionalism to enable the understanding and acceptance of the information; of allusion, proverbs and idioms, quotation and self-quotation to add the aesthetic feeling. thus arousing interests and leaving a deep impression;2) employ constitutive intertextuality, such as generic intertextuality to express meanings clearly and comprehensively; structural or functional or thematic to make a logical and systematic text and help readers to grasp the basic structures or common themes; rhetorical intertextuality to contribute to the aesthetic feeling and memorability.The paper enriches the application of intertextuality in non-literary field in some degrees and touches English hotel introduction from a relatively new angle. It’s hoped that the relatively deep and systematic study on intertextuality in English hotel introduction would expand the research field of intertextuality and shed some light on the interpretation of intertextuality in English hotel introduction and a deeper understanding of intertextuality theory.
