This paper aims to explore the manifest and constitutive intertextuality applied in English company profiles, to reveal how the use of intertextuality in the English company profiles helps to convey information effectively and to achieve communicative purposes, and accordingly brings some inspiration to the writers and readers of English company profiles.Intertextuality means that texts are interrelated with or interdependent on each other. The present study, based on Hatim and Mason's prototype and combined with Fairclough's classification, establishes a comprehensive theoretical framework and presents twelve intertextuality types, including six kinds of manifest intertextuality and six kinds of constitutive intertextuality.The present paper is mainly a qualitative one, though supported by simple quantitative research. The author sets a corpus of 40 English company profiles as samples for analysis. Detailed analysis shows that the use of intertextuality is pervasive in English company profiles. In order to achieve the communicative purpose, the authors use various intertextuality types in English company profiles. On the one hand, making good use of intertextuality enhances persuasive and convincing power of the English company profiles, arouses readers'interest, gets positive feedback and finally achieves their promoting purposes. On the other hand, the use of intertextuality in English company profiles functions a lot in making the text logical and attractive,and helps to provide information accurately and facilitates the reader's understanding. The mastery of intetextuality in English company profile is helpful to the making and understanding process. Therefore, the following strategies could be concluded based on the above discussion: 1) make use of manifest intertextuality, such as reference, quotation & self-quotation, and conventionalism, to provide necessary inforamtion and to increase the objectivity and authenticity of English company profiles. 2) make use of constitutive intertextuality, such as structural intertextuality and topical intertextuality, to grasp the basic structures and common themes of English company profiles and make the whole text logical.The paper expands the application of intertextuality in non-literary texts to some extent, and provides a new perspective to analyze the company profile texts. It is hoped that the systematical study on the intertextuality in English company profiles would enrich the research field of intertextuality, throw light on the understanding of intertextuality in English company profiles and get deeper understanding of the intertextuality theory.
