As an important tool of cross-cultural communication, interpreting is the keyfactor which determines the quality of communication and helps overcome languagebarriers. As a major standard measuring the quality of interpreting, cohesive strategiesplay a vital role. This paper tries to deal with the application of Cohesion Theory inE-C interpretation.The translation of Remarks by U.S. Ambassador to China, Gary Locke inBeijing Foreign Studies University, this research not only explores the application ofcohesive theory used in E-C interpretation, but explores how repetition, addition andomission are used in the text.The translation of Remarks by U.S. Ambassador to China, Gary Locke inBeijing Foreign Studies University is a speech. Speech is a kind of talk or addressgiven in public, a prepared speech delivered to a special audience or on a specialoccasion. The language of a public speech should be cohesive which could appeal tothe audience and be easy to understand. Thus, the cohesion of the text counts more.As for lexical cohesion, the most important strategy of Cohesive Theory, Iobserve the following types: repetition, addition and omission. Repetition could beused to repeat subject and similar elements of the sentence; Addition includes subjectaddition; In terms of omission, it is frequently used in E-C interpretation which guidesthe interpreter in strategies.
