With the development of China’s economy and international status, the foreign exchange has become more and more popular and the demand for interpretation has also become more and more rigorous. As an important tool of cross-cultural communication, interpreting is the key factor which determines the quality of communication and helps overcome language barriers. As a major standard measuring the quality of interpreting, cohesive strategies play a vital role. This paper tries to deal with the application of Cohesion Theory in English-Chinese consecutive interpretation.Discourse, whether verbal or written expression, must be cohesive, logical. Cohesion theory, belongs to the textual metafunction in Halliday’s Functional Grammar, which has a strong practicality. Halliday believes that Cohesion is a semantic link, referring to the phenomena of interplay among different components in one discourse. A text without the cohesion is just like the body without bones. Halliday calls the links among different relevant components the Cohesive Strategy, including grammatical devices, lexical cohesion, logical language and pragmatic and semantic implication.Based on the Cohesion Theory, this paper, through translating the Human Emotion, tries to elucidate how to use the cohesive strategies as a guide when we do English-Chinese interpretation and, how to enhance our interpreting level with the combination of theory and practices with the usage of the appropriate strategies. At the same time, we must understand psychological principles in order to better guide future work and study.
