In the context of economic globalization, transnational and cross-cultural exchanges areincreasingly frequent, and close cross-cultural communication becomes an important featurein today’s world. At the same time,“intercultural communication”, as an emerging disciplinein linguistics, is paid more and more attention. Translating, which is the communicationactivity in the process of cross-cultural communication, inevitably plays an important role inorder to achieve the purpose of communication.This report is based on the author’s translation practice of Intercultural Communication:An Advanced Resource Book, which is written by Adrian Holliday, Martin Hyde and JohnKullman. This is a kind of comprehensive resource book, providing students and researcherswith the support of they need for advanced study in the core areas of English language andapplied linguistics. The author chose Theme1and Theme2in Section A of this book as thesource text. It mainly tells us some examples about intercultural communication and how todeal with intercultural communication of this kind. The author successfully completed thetranslation task under the guidance of her supervisor.The report introduces the background and the significance of the project and analyzesthe source text, including its features from stylistic and language aspect. Guided by functionalequivalence theory, the author mainly describes the application of it in her translation process.In addition, the report is focused on analyzing specific problems and obstacles the author hasencountered in translation. It then provides several coping strategies for such problems. In aword, the author hopes that this report can be helpful for other students who are interested inintercultural communication.
