Chinese culture text book is a paper material for foreign students learningChinese culture, its English interpretation plays a very important role to help studentscorrectly understand the thorough meaning of Culture. The author found that,in theintermediate textbooks,the orientations and styles maybe vary, however, new wordsare always accompanied by a translation and explanation of foreign language. For theChinese Culture Textbooks are reckoned as lacking of an universal culture syllabus,the choices taken in Culture project as a result represent a significant difference,which eventually leads to the characteristics of the translation and explanation ofvocabulary in different books respectively. Compared with TCFL ComprehensiveTextbooks, The quality of translation and explanation of Chinese Culture Textbookscannot satisfy both the teachers and students. As far as the author is concerned,vocabulary is the footstone of laying a skyscraper of language. For a foreign student,vocabulary acquisition is the basis of learning a foreign language to enhance thelanguage as well as the communication ability. In the period of learning, mastery ofwords will directly have a great influence on the effect of students’ study.In this paper, the author selects the widely used Chinese Culture TextbookChinese Culture《中国文化》, Chinese Traditional Culture and Modern life (I)《中国传统文化与现代生活》, Course in Two-way Chinese Culture《汉语文化双向教程》as the material for comparison, in order to discover the existing problems intranslation and explanation, and to make an improvement in the quality of vocabularytranslating.This paper is mainly divided into the following five parts. Firstly, theintroduction; Secondly, our school’s foreign students have been surveyed, in order tohave a further acquaintance on the demands of the text user, the chapter is alsocompared from the aspects of model, content and form of the words translation, whichcenter on the theory analysis combined with examples in the three books; Thirdly, theauthor figures out the problems of the new words translation found in those books;fourthly, the author provides the reasons and countermeasures about the new words translation in the books; and finally, some suggestions are both given to the writers ofthe Chinese Culture Textbooks and the teachers.
