The Study On English Notes Of New Words In The Chinese Learning Books

Short-term Spoken Chinese is published by Beijing Language University for short-term learners. This thesis is about the new words’English explanation in Threshold, Elementary and Pre-Intermediate, analysis the new words’notes item by item, the errors of the English explanation in Short-term Spoken Chinese can be the following eight types:the English translation and explanation is too simple, lacking the necessary limitation, result in the note isn’t completely correspond; the English translation and explanation and the word’s meaning in the context have distance, interpretation is wrong; the new words’explanation are not related to the text; the part of speech marked in the new words’table is wrong; when being annotated words are quantifiers, the English translation and explanation don’t clearly defined the object and scope of application; the differences between Chinese and English can not be distinguished; the new words’English explanation don’t pay attention to the emotional color and cultural meaning.From the analysis of the above questions, about the form and content of the English translation and explanation, the thesis put forward some advices. The new words can be translated by both English and Chinese, especially the Elementary and Pre-Intermediate. Don’t use English to translate the new words for those can use learned Chinese vocabulary; About the content, the new words translation can not be divorced from the textbook, and cannot be too simple, pay attention to the tagging of the part of speech and the measure word. Reflecting the emotional coloring, the cultural connotation and emphasize the word collocation at the same time.
