As China communicates more and more frequently with other countries in economy area, it becomes increasingly important to get informed about the economic information of other countries. The translation text chosen in this essay is the World Bank Review of2010, which studies the relation between poverty and city sizes in developing countries, with the conclusion that the city size and poverty is in inverse relationship. Though China is not among the selected countries, it is of great importance for China to get familiar with the situation in other developing countries so as to study the relationship between its own cities and poverty, which is beneficial for its urban-rural harmonious development.Under the context theory and based on the translation and analysis of the review, this essay is to discuss the characteristics and translation skills of English economic texts. The main part of this essay is divided into three aspects:the vocabularies, which is mainly about the materialization of the abstract nouns. The methods are transferring English noun advantages into Chinese verbal advantages and adding affixation to the abstract nouns; the sentences, which is about four kinds of comparative sentences; and the text, which is mainly about the reference, including personal reference, demonstrative reference and comparative reference. With the discussion of these three aspects, the writer expects that the translation skills in this area should be improved and the translation skills analyzed in this essay might be of avail to other translators.
