Published by the Economic Science Press,The Development of China Metropolitan Area is one volume of The Chinese path series. It analyzes the development of Chinese metropolitan areas from the aspects of history, politics and economy. With the Belt and Road Initiative and the development of reform and opening up,China's politics and economy are attracting increasingly attention from the world. Thus, the translation quality of The Development of China Metropolitan Area will affect China's political publicity. This translation report is based on the translation of chapters 1 to 4 of The Development of China Metropolitan Area.Under the guidance of Reiss' s Text Types Theory and Vermeer's Skopos Theory, the report scrutinizes typical cases in the translation process, and puts forward the corresponding translation skills and methods, aiming to summarize two questions: What should translators do to ensure the translation quality of informative texts;Whether it is feasible to deal with informative texts through the Skopos Theory to overcome the cultural distinctions between Chinese and English. In the report, the author initially analyzes the type and language characteristics of the source text through the Text Types Theory to establish the translation purpose, and then collects the parallel texts. In the process of translation, according to Vermeer's Skopos Theory and its principle that the translation purpose decides the translation strategies and methods, the author explores the appropriate translation methods and skills from lexical, syntactical and textual levels with the aim that how to accurately introduce the development of Chinese metropolitan areas to foreign readers. In addition, the author mainly adopts the techniques and methods of claques, paraphrase, conversion, combination and negation to cope with these problems of words with Chinese characteristics, sentences without subjects.Since the original text belongs to informative texts, the translation should also be delivered the same concepts and information as the original text in plain and simple expressions to the readers. The report concludes that translators should first carefully dissect the type and characteristics of the original text before translating, and choose the appropriate CAT tools. What's more, they should collect a large amount of relevant parallel texts. They must have a comprehensive and deep perception of the characteristics of such texts, and then absorb positive translation techniques and methods from the parallel texts to ensure the readability and fluency of the translation.Furthermore, since the goal of the original text is to introduce China to foreign readers, the Skopos Theory is also feasible to guide the practice. As a final point, the report expects that the translation techniques and methods summarized by the author can provide reference for translators in the study of informative texts translation.
