In the research about clothing there is such an interesting contradiction:on the one hand we have some literature (LiuGuoLian.2007) advocates the clothing treatment, thinking the collocation of clothing and dress can improve people’s self-esteem, still can treat anxiety, depression, negative emotions, such as resistance; On the other hand, there are some foreign literature (Marika Tiggemann,2009) points out that shopping process of trying on clothes, for women is a common frustration experience, even can make them feel more pressure.Clothing was supposed to bring women happiness, why also have so many negative effect? This is because women suffer more public attention about appearance than men. also more inclined to connect self-esteem to bright appearance or others praise. They expect their dress to reach their ideal image of beauty, to express themselves, if this dream fails, they will feel anxiety, irritability, frustration, insecurity, and even the inferiority.Such clothing pressure is so common in life, and there are many documents involved in this, but still lack of systematic study. What is the pressure source of clothing pressure? What is the influence degree of the different pressure source for women? How to judge whether a woman in the dress under pressure or not? These are the problems this paper attempts to answer.The first part of this study was based on literature research and exploratory work (including questionnaire and interview), create the clothing pressure dimensions, and compiled first draft of ’women’s clothing pressure survey".And then, revised the draft till it become formal questionnaire,and validate the structure of questionnaire check the reliability and validity of it.The second part of this study is the analysis of the formal questionnaire, conclusions include:1)594respondents of formal questionnaire, their average score is3.69, since it’s five point scoring scale, this results show that women generally feel the clothing pressure;2) Aesthetic pressure is higher than social pressure:in the questionnaire aesthetic pressure scores significantly (P<0.001) higher than social pressure score, three factors that classified as aesthetic pressure explains more aesthetic pressure variation (45%-63%), the other factors that classified to social pressure, explain less variation (23%-11%); 3) The participants feels most pressure on self-expression:ranking all six factors according to mean score, turns out to be " self-expression> economic burden> others judgement>appearance> selection difficulty> fashion trend", and the difference between them was significant (P<0.01);4) Group differences:married women clothing pressure is significantly lower than single women (P<0.05); women under the age20clothing pressure significantly (P<0.01) lower than other age women; women got bachelor’s degree clothing pressure is significantly higher than in female (P<0.05); Women in southwest China clothing pressure is significantly higher than the rest region (P<0.01).The oretical value of this research is tentatively put forward the concept of clothing pressure and explore its structure--it summarized as "social pressure" and "aesthetic pressure" and divided into six factors, also shows in the relationship through the analysis of the data; Practical value is to compile a good reliability and validity of the female clothing pressure survey, can be used for women’s self-discovery clothing pressure is the pressure source, and the influence of different pressure source strength, to seek the solution, can also be used for other institutions, scholar’s research.The innovation this paper is study from empirical perspective, and study on the experience and theory that have been established, and integrate the consideration of clothing to be a questionnaire, then we can examine the source and strength of clothing pressure by this questionnaire.
