British mathematician Glaisher (J.W.L.Glaisher,18481928) once said:“No subject willsuffer more than mathematics, I’m sure, for the attempt to cut apart a subject and its history.”Advanced mathematics is the basic course for science and engineering students inuniversity. Its teaching quality has a direct influence on further study. With the teachingreformation going on, more and more teachers and researchers begin to pay close attention tothe teaching of mathematic history. Due to a variety of restriction factors, teaching reform ofthe mathematic history and research work has just begun, and the related research andpracticing work appears more urgent.This paper analyzes the current situation of the advanced mathematic teaching, as well asthe present situation of the development of the history of mathematic education. Withanalyzing the questionnaire to undergraduates and university teachers, we found that themathematic historical data in the textbook and the teaching of mathematic history help toenhance students’ interest in learning mathematics, widening students’ horizons and inspiringstudents to learn mathematics. In the teaching reform, we should pay more attention to thehistory of mathematics. We should learn about and acknowledge the history of mathematics,and make full use of its education function.Calculus is one of the main contents of advanced mathematics. This paper introducesthe development of calculus and makes a simple description of how calculus plays animportant role in the development of mathematicians, which provides materials for theteaching of mathematic history. Discussing the reason why should advanced mathematicscontain the history of mathematics makes teachers fully aware of the significance ofmathematic history and provide corresponding theoretical basis. We have explored the mainfactors that influence the teaching quality of mathematic history education in universities,discussed the effective methods in the teaching of mathematic history and practiced them. Thestudy has reference in popularizing and promoting of teaching of mathematics history andhelp advanced mathematics implement the teaching of mathematic history.
