The skew extension rolling process is an important part of the metal skewrolling forming process. Recently, the skew rolling process is simulatedconveniently because of the development of the meshless methods. It has beenthe hot spot to simulate the skew extension rolling process and analyze itsvelocity field, strain field, stress field with meshless method.Point interpolation method (PIM) was firstly discussed. Through flow ruleof micro compression rigid plastic material, local radial point interpolationmethod (LRPIM) was studied and formula of metal forming process of the localradial point interpolation method were given. Secondly, radial pointinterpolation method (RPIM) was applied to the skew rolling process ofcompression rigid plastic material. According to rigid plastic deformationtheory and rigid plastic material variational principle, system energy functionalof skew rolling process was gained. Each component of the variational of energyrate functional was deduced and the discrete control equations were built, thusthe three dimensional calculation model based on radial basis pointsinterpolation RPIM of the skew extension rolling process was established.Applying the analysis of program of rigid plastic meshless method RPIM ofskew rolling process, the skew extension rolling process was simulated andanalyzed, then the metal flow, velocity field,stress field,strain field distributionand so on of skew rolling process deformation were got. Experiment was donein pipe mill, and the mechanical parameters and shape parameters of skewextension rolling process were gained. Finally, these results by RPIM werecompared with experimental results and those by rigid plastic finite elementmethod,which verifies the feasibility and effectiveness of simulation of kewextension rolling process by RPIM.The results show that the trend of Simulation results by RPIM agree withthose by FEM, and the trend of mechanical parameters and shape parameters byRPIM also match up with those by experiment, which indicates that the method of analyzing skew rolling process by RPIM is feasible and correct. The researchshows that RPIM can not only simulate skew extension rolling process, can alsobe used for other skew rolling processes, because it has the advantages ofsolving large deformation. Therefore, this paper provides an efficient numericalanalysis method for the study of metal skew rolling forming process.
