Acid rain has been seen as a common situation exsiting in developed countries,however the concern has been longging large that acid rain will cause seriousconsequences in China. Following Western Europe and North America, China is thethird largest area that sees the formation of acid precipitation. It seriously damagesglobal eco-environment and affects and human activities on socio-ecomonic scope, thusas one of the most important projects that need to be tackled to protect environment inChina, reducing sulfur dioxide gas emission and controlling the relevant pollution forbetter atmospheric environment quality needs starting from now on.This thesis mainly focuses on the development of flue gas desulfurization andpresent available desulfurization technologies in China. The common approaches indesulfurization in China have been summarised. Based on the technology of wetcalcium/magnesium flue gas desulfurization in He’nan Branch of China Aluminum Co.Ltd, each module within the technology has been analysed on their respective fuctions.Finally, each functional module has been established as controlled unit within thecontrol system. From technical perspective, common control sysmtems have been firstlyintroduced and compared with their strengths and weaknesses so that betterunderstanding of each system can be achieved, and that a suitable control system can beselected for the company based on the situation of its thermodynamic boilers. Next, allthe controlled units in flue gas desulfurization process have been given fuctionallydescribed. Then, the network expansion plan has been designed for the whole controlsystem. Also necessary conditions for pre-, while-, post-stages in flue gasdesulfurization process have been looked into, while solutions to interlocking layout foreach controlled unit and emergency plan applicable to the previously mentioned threestages have been given. As a result of the study, complex technical process has beendemonstrated in easy and concise man-machine interaction interfaces, which makesmanual operation process easier and more manageable.Since the application of the technology, the data from flue gas desulfurizationbyproduct detecting devices suggest efficient desulfurization, safe and reliable controlled equipment, higher staff working efficiency, and improved continuity andefficency in desulfurization. Environmental benefit have been realised to certain extentas well due to the technology application. Feasibility and effectiveness in utilising thesystem haven been practically proven.
