Smart grid is the trend and direction of the development of the power grid. And now it has been considered has relation with national strategy. Smart substation is responsible for transformation in smart grid which is the important basis and support of the smart grid. Design is the leading part in power grid construction which will directly determine the construction and the technology level of the whole substation. To study the design of smart substation systematically, then forme design plan which is advanced and economic, which has significant meaning to the construction of smart substation. And also can lay a solid foundation for the development of smart grid and accumulate valuable experience. The design of110kV smart substation is for the typical substation of110kV scale. By investigating and mastering the development condition of key technology of the smart substation, by studying and comparing various aspects such as advanced technology and practical engineering to choose the appropriate technology which will be applied to the design of the smart substation. All these will form a design plan which is suitable for the present smart power grid with advanced technology and reasonable economic. This article first analyzes the development trend of primary equipment, and divides the development course into three stages, then makes clear the technical requirements of the smart primary equipment. Based on the current technology development level, this article make sure that this research object in this article use the second stage pattern, that is on-line monitoring device of integration high voltage equipment configuration. At the same time it allocate the intelligent comprehensive unit which is made up of intelligent terminal and merging unit installed in a intelligent Local Control Panel. And also formulate the engineering application solutions. Then it studied the classification and composition of the electronic instrument transformer. Through the detailed analysis of the technical principle of different kinds of electronic instrument transformers and the serious investigation of the application layer, And through the comparision of the conventional transformer and the intelligent electronic transformer in the light of the arrangement of110kV intelligent substations, it finally determined the transformer configuration scheme. Then this paper studies the scope and constitute of the on-line monitoring equipment, makes clear the meaning of online monitoring to realize the state overhaul, puts forward the implementation of on-line monitoring. And it also looks forward the trend of on-line monitoring; and then formes a complete design scheme of110kV intelligent substation. In the process of forming design scheme, through comparing many kinds of scheme, finally it chooses the general layout mode which is reasonable and economic and intelligent substation system network structure. The design scheme not only systematacially explains the power system, the primary parts, the secondary parts and the telecommunication parts, it also makes careful consideration in many low carbon, energy saving, pro-environment aspects such as the application of clean energy, the adoption of equipments which have the advantage of energy saving and environmental protection, and the electric vehicle (EV) chargers. In the end, this article summarized the design and research of110kV intelligent substation, and put forward the individual thoughts of how to choose technology and equipment in the upcoming stage that the smart substation will spread. And it also prospects the development trend of the related key technology and the beautiful prospects.
