Since the concept of smart grid first proposed by the United States, it becomes thefocus of power industry around the world. In2009, State Grid Corporation of Chinaformally proposed the construction plan of strong smart grid. The plan pointed out thatChina will build a large amount of intelligent substations of110kV and above.The work of this paper is about the field test of the intelligent substations. Thefield test work is the important step before substations putting into use and is theguarantee of stable operation and grid security. However, the field test of intelligentsubstation level is lagging behind. The main test methods are open-loop tests on a singledevice that unable to adapt to those new intelligent electronic devices which havecomplex information organization and distribution. It may leave the hidden danger ofthe safe operation of the power grid. In view of this situation, this paper presents amethod of panoramic test.The panoramic test method regards the intelligent substation secondary system asa whole system. When doing panoramic test, maintains the integrity of the secondarysystem wiring and input information, so that achieves the purpose of inspecting thefeature and performance of the secondary system. The paper firstly describes thetechnology roadmap, test method and devices of panoramic test system. Then the paperresearches the technology of wireless network and IEEE1588Precision ClockSynchronization, which are the key technology of panoramic test system. Thepanoramic test system is designed and implemented. The paper describes the hardwaredesign of all modules in detail. At last, the paper shows the performance of thepanoramic test system in the field test of Taixing220kV intelligent substation inSichuan province.The panoramic test is a totally new technology for intelligent substation field testthat can test the technical performance of the whole secondary system, also supportsjoint testing between substations.
