The substation automation system (integrated automation system) is to optimize the combination to secondary equipment functions, such as relay protection, measurement, control, fault filtering, signal processing, sports equipment, automatic device and so on, with the computer technology, information processing technology and communication technology, so as to realize the measurement and control of all equipment operation to the transformer substation in transformer substation. Protective relaying is when the fault and abnormal condition occurs in the power system, the relaying in the shortest time of implementation and the minimum area, automatic remove fault device from the system, or send signals by the on-duty person to eliminate the abnormal condition of the root, in order to reduce or avoid the damage of equipment and influence on adjacent area power supply. Protective relaying is an important part of the substation automation system, it is important to study the relay protection for the safe and stable operation of substation integrated automation system.This paper analyzes the shortcomings of traditional substation and recent substation integrated automation system benefits in terms of reliability, security, automated management firstly, and discusses the development process of the substation integrated automation system and protection technology at home and abroad. Then, based on the study of the technical data on relevant substation automatic system, it analyzes main structure system of substation, at the same time details the anatomy structure of microcomputer protection hardware and software, and analyses and introduces the main software program and hardware circuit, analyzes the commonly used protection algorithm of microcomputer protection and comprehensive evaluation of characteristics of each kind of algorithm. It analyzes the main form of several relay substation integrated automation system, and analyzes the principle of each relay protection from extreme protection, bus differential protection, main transformer differential protection and non-power protection. Finally, combined with Hangzhou city Xiaoshan District 220kV Guali substation comprehensive automation transformation case, put forward the design of protective relaying of substation integrate automation system scheme, including the realization of transformer protection and line protection function, and studies the hardware design and software program diagram of the protection scheme. Substation implementation and acceptance of the results showed that the design scheme of the substation based on substation relay protection improvement has obvious effect.
