Bernard Williams is one of the most important philosophers of England in Twentieth Century. The essay following is the explanatory notes of Truth and Truthfulness Chapter10—"understanding" which is the last book published during his lifetime. The article contains four parts and an addendum. The first part introduces Williams himself, his books and thoughts. The second part sketches the issues responded by Truth and Truthfulness and the main ideas of Genealogical method used by him. Also this part combs other chapters and the main content of Chapter10. The third part is the main part of this essay. I did explanation of every section in the same order as the original book. The main content I’m commenting are the thinkers and ideas being implied in the texts of Williams and some other thinkers and ideas being mentioned but not explained specifically. The main content being explained is the relationship between Williams’ point of views and some important issues in philosophy and history and also it’s theory background. The fourth part is a epilogue. The addendum is my simple translation to the Chapter10of Truth and Truthfulness.Williams is a thinker with his deep cultivation and various thoughts. However this book is his last book, it’s not easy to read and understand. I hope this essay is helpful to other readers in understanding and reading Chapter10of Truth and Truthfulness.
